Student Handbook - Academic Support CenterStudents in need of extra help in any subject should not hesitate to seek it. In addition to consulting the class instructor and faculty assistant, students should take advantage of DeVry's Academic Support Center. Located on the second floor near the Library, The Academic Support Center is directed by Laura Byers and is staffed by senior faculty assistants throughout the day to provide students with free tutorial assistance. Hours of service vary each semester, so students should check the Center for exact times and days.In addition to helping students with questions in their coursework, the Center provides assistance to students who need individual help in communication skills. The ability to read and write clearly is crucial to success in industry and business as well as school. While any student may participate, the Center is especially helpful to first- and second-term students who need additional preparation for their first writing course. English as a Second Language assistance is also available for international students. In addition to direct student assistant help, the Center also provides computer tutorials for the improvement of reading, writing, or math skills. Students should check with any of the staff for information about and help with these tutorials. A list of private tutors, for your personal use, is available in the Academic Support Center. Tutors are available in virtually every course offered by the Institute. Private tutors normally charge a nominal fee for their services. Return to: Student Handbook Contents
