II. FACILITY ACCESS AND SECURITY The Facilities Department maintains the building and grounds with a concern for safety and security. Members of the Department inspect the facility regularly; make repairs affecting safety, security, and hazards; and respond to reports of potential safety of security hazards, such as broken windows. Students and staff can contact the Facilities Department by calling Extension 352, or filling out a Maintenance Work Request Form and submitting it to Student Services. There are fire alarms throughout the building, which should be used in the event of an emergency. The DeVry Phoenix facility is open from 6:00 am to 11:00 pm, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday; 6:00 am to 8:00 pm Friday; 7:00 am to 5:00 pm, Saturday; and 10:00 am to 6:00 pm on Sunday. Access to classes and labs are limited to those enrolled in the courses meeting there, or appropriate staff and faculty members. Access to activities on and off campus is limited to these students actively enrolled at DeVry Phoenix and their guests. Students are responsible for the behavior of their guests at all times during any DeVry sponsored activity. DeVry reserves the right to require that student I.D. cards be presented for admittance to locations and events, and reserves the right to request that a student present the I.D. card on campus to an appropriate official. During the times when DeVry is closed, the buildings are generally locked; however, there is an emergency procedure in place. During the times the facility is closed, the building is monitored by Honeywell Protective Services. The building is cleaned by a bonded janitorial service company. Security is provided during the hours of business operation through the Student Services Department. III. CAMPUS LAW ENFORCEMENT Students and staff are encouraged to report all on-campus crimes to the Student Services Office during the day, and to the Academic Receptionist during evening hours. Where appropriate, crimes will be reported to local law enforcement agencies. Students accused of criminal action will be treated in accordance with the Code of Conduct outlined in the DeVry Phoenix Student Handbook. IV. ALCOHOL AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE DeVry forbids the use, possession, distribution, or sale of drugs or alcohol by students anywhere on Institute property. Students in violation of state, federal, or other local regulations with respect to illegal drugs or alcohol may be subject to both criminal prosecution and campus disciplinary action. Details of the policy may be found in the Student Handbook, or may be obtained in Student Services. V. SEXUAL OFFENSE July 1, 1993, the Sexual Assault Victim's Bill of Rights was adopted as part of the Campus Security Act. DeVry Phoenix has developed a variety of programs to prevent sexual offenses and has adopted procedures for a victim to follow when a sex offense has occurred. Sexual crime definitions: Sexual Assault: physical contact of a sexual nature, which is against one's will or without one's consent. Forcible Sexual Offense: any act directed against another person, forcible and/or against the person's will; or not forcibly or against the person's will where the victim is incapable of giving consent, including forcible rape, forcible sodomy, sexual assault with an object, and forcible fondling. Rape: sexual intercourse that is coerced through force or threats of force, or with someone who is unconscious, or incapable of giving consent.
